Senior Partner | Portugal
Gavin has over 25 years’ experience in advising expatriates. Before joining Blevins Franks, Gavin was a founding Partner of an independent firm of financial consultants in the Sultanate of Brunei. There he advised expatriates and high net-worth families on all aspects of financial and succession planning using trusts and tax efficient investment structures. Gavin joined Blevins Franks in the Algarve in 2000.
Gavin holds the Diploma for Financial Advisers (DipFA) and the full UK Financial Planning Certificate. He is a member of the Personal Finance Society by Certificate and has attended wealth planning and investments courses in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Sydney as well as Rome and London, a little closer to home.
Having lived in the Algarve for many years, Gavin understands the issues affecting expatriates in this sunny corner of Europe. His experience, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of Portuguese legislation and how it interacts with UK tax and succession law, places Gavin in the perfect position to provide cross-border financial advice.
With increasing client numbers, thanks mostly to recommendations from existing clients, Gavin’s Portugal team has grown from 2 to 12 people over the last ten years. He’s supported by a team of private client managers, pensions, tax and investment experts based in the Blevins Franks offices in Malta and London.
Gavin’s daughters, Nikki and Cara, were educated in the Algarve and the UK. Nikki and her husband now run an online design and marketing business, while Cara lives at home in the Algarve with Gavin and his wife, Joan.
In the very little spare time he has, Gavin would love to get his golf handicap to a respectable level. In summer he enjoys taking to the water and spending time with family and friends boating and paddle boarding. He’s also an incurable romantic who believes that Partick Thistle is the only real football team in Glasgow.
